On an island between 2 playing fields including Brasnose CC's pitch where 2 sightscreens stood proudly showing their water marks, & the River Isis, the ground at Queens was a further 6 inches above the water & remained dry. Still it had to be a pitch where one inserted which is just what Captain Webley did. Early breakthroughs supported the tactic but a partnership of 108 between Diamond & Morris swung the game back UCS's way.
Try as he did, the perming of the bowlers were unable to sweep away strong UCS resistance & ultimatley only the indefatigable Darryl Roberts plus Hollman & Webley had any wickets to show for their efforts but by then it was a big ask.
A steadyish reply at even tempo left Pacific well in the game but the mood slipped when perceived umpiring misjudgements swept away the core of the batting challenge. Persistent nagging bowling & a climbing asking rate meant the lower order took their chances which on another day may have paid off.
Sadly even a draw was beyond Pacific as UCS were the worthy winners & retained the Lindridge-McDougall Memorial Cup & with Pacific's last chance of silverware this damp season.
