Lindridge-McDougall Memorial Trophy combat resumes.
Here's a brief match report from an email exchange between Justin Hess and Shayne Rees:
"Yesterdays game was a bit disappointing. We could have won it. They batted first and we made decent progress for the first 30 overs until lunch. Matt Holliday took the most amazing diving catch to a really fast ball in gully. Truly awesome. Darren bowled and did really well. Swinging it plenty. They only scored about 110 off the first 30ish.
After lunch was a different story. They had a pretty strong, though painfully meticulous batsman in and he began to take us apart. I've never seen so many requests for guard in one innings, and asking for a side screen to be moved 6 inches is, well... Asking what the partnership was taking the pee pee. Anyway, we didn't help ourselves as there were a few dropped catches and other fielding errors and he got to 143 before I caught him on the midwicket boundary off Jon Webley’s bowling. Then it turned into a slog-fest and they put on a load of runs in the last 10 overs. Darren and I got spanked. Before then our figures looked pretty decent.
We needed to score just over 5 an over. Not a big ask. The guys started off ok and were scoring around 4 an over off the first 10 or 12 until Steve Lay came in. He had said he should go down the order as he didn’t think he could score fast enough, but was put in at 4. The runs just dried up and the required run rate got up to about 8 an over. Then wickets began to fall as guys had to go for big shots. I think I was the last one to have a go. But I was out 3rd ball after hitting 2 fours. Just played a little early and skied it to mid off. Should have been a 6! Chris Atkins came in at 9 and had to bat for the draw but got out after a while. The final 2 were Luke and Matt. With only 4 overs to go, and having been blocking out, they decided to go for a crazy run and it was all over.
Not a brilliant performance. And fielding for 61 overs was a looooooooooooong time! But a great lunch and tea - as ever!
The sides for the Oxford weekend at the end of July are as follows.
Chris and I have tried to get all FMs at least one game. Please
