The winning streak continues as this fine victory in a 45 over contest made it five on the trot. Pacific batted first, with Paul Rajkumar and Riz both hitting their first Pacific 50s of the season. Toby played the anchor role before being adjudged LBW four runs short of what would have been his fifth consecutive 50 and his fiftieth 50 for Pacific. Perhaps the pressure to reach the landmark was getting to him as he appeared to get bogged down in the 40s. Kieran also chipped in and managed to survive Riz's attempts to run him out, taking the Pacific total to 202, which looked a competitive score on a slow pitch that did not appear to allow freedom to the strokeplayers. It was a largely overcast and slightly chilly day on the big expanses of the UCS outfield.
Riz urged the bowlers to bowl straight on the low surface but had to limp from the game after his bowling spell (groin strain?). Ben Burnham took his first wicket for the club, and what a vital one it was too in the form of the dangerous UCS skipper Joseph Craig. Nav bowled sharply as ever but it was the straight and steady of Phil and Paul that kept UCS tied down before Ahmed took three in his spell at the death. Rajkumar pulled off a remarkable standing back stumping. The catching and fielding were high class, though the field settings were a little Matthews-esque at times. Nav clean-bowled UCS's No 11 with a few balls to go to complete a historic victory and win back the Lindridge-McDougall Memorial Cup for the first time since losing it in 2006. Paul Davis gratefully packed the silverware into his bag to get Pacific proudly emblazoned on it once more. After the match the UCS Twitter feed issued the following offering: "Joke's on them. Who's paying to have the trophy engraved now, eh?"
The Pacific support club numbered well, with Phil and Paul's other halves, plus Nuggsy and scorer Chris.
Toby causes May-hem with the bat:
