The 2000 Cricket Season failed to get going in Islington last Saturday. Islington¹s last cricket team who continue to play regularly within the borough saw their traditional curtain raiser washed out as the Wray Crescent ground resembled a paddy field on Saturday morning.
The Pacific Seniors v Juniors 40 over match had to be abandoned without a ball being bowled for only the second time in the club¹s 20 year history. Club Secretary & Seniors Captain, Peter Hollman was concerned as this cancellation leaves the players desperately underprepared. We scrapped the pre season single wicket a few years ago, last weeks outdoor practice had to be cancelled, & nets have not been as well attended as in the past. We have 2 fixtures next weekend including an inaugral fixture against a useful Gracies team who lost just 1 match last year & this doesn¹t help.
