The last game of the Pacific midweek season was, much like my academic career, ruined by Sports Interactive.
Losing the toss and fielding first, Pacific made a good start and kept things tight with leading wicket taker Ben Snodin and Greg Ayre making things difficult early on - the first four overs going for only 24. We couldn't find a breakthrough though and the batsmen settled, aided by a couple of tough chances dropped, and accelerated. Their #4, I believe on debut, in particular looked an excellent cricketer and dispatched three sixes in a quick fire 29* which pushed them past 150.
In response, we were always a little bit behind the rate despite some ambitious running as hitting boundaries with any regularity against tidy but not spectacular bowling proved difficult. I (Rob) couldn't get anything to the boundary in front of me and so resorted to playing two scoops to general approving polite applause (read: gales of laughter) from the boundary. With the run rate mounting, Mutz, Colin and PBD aimed some big shots but the debutant from earlier came on and bowled really nicely left arm over the wicket and gave us very little chance of pushing the rate higher.
Afterwards, we retired to the People's Park Tavern to reflect on the season. Here are a few of the statistical high/lowlights:
- 15 games scheduled (14 league, 1 cup)
- 2 cancellations
- 2 wins, 11 losses
- 26 players used
- Mutz Siddiqui most appearances (12)
- 10 - John Deighan & Greg Ayre, 7 - Jaime Hargreaves, 6 - Rob Dinsey, Anthony Bradley & Ben Snodin
- John Deighan most runs (347 from 10 innings, 4 50s, averaging 86.75)
- Mutz Siddiqui 232 runs, Paul Rajkumar 153, Colin Pollard 129, Jaime Hargreaves 109
- Ben Snodin most wickets (9 @ 14.22, economy 6.10)
- Greg Ayre (4 @ 84.25) John Deighan (3 @ 62.00) and James Soden (3 @ 6.00)
We'll be back next year, with a few things to work on...
