It was an early start to allow for the World Cup Final. It was a beautiful day at Highgate Woods and Pacific tuned up with some net practice. The early start was pushed back by the usual slow arrival by Black Rose Skip Bastin won the toss and opted to bat to almost universal praise.

Duthie and long term absentee Wiehahn opened the batting with a solid opening partnership of 47 before Duthie was a touch unlucky to be given LBW. Webley looked to continue his good form and was just opening up when his nemesis Shah bowled him. Roy quickly departed. Wiehahn continued his super come back before departing to a tired heave across the line on 69. Lahrie anchored the rest of the innings whilst Smith and Bastin injected some necessary rapid scoring. A total of 194 looked OK on a pitch with variable bounce.

An ordinary tea was slowly consumed.

Gleadow and Rees opened the bowling with tight spells. Gleadow suffered from two dropped catches (Cramer and a flying Roy) but claimed two wickets. The innings ebbed and flowed as a flurry of runs would be followed by a couple of wickets. Korgaonkar found some turn and got two wickets but Shah also hit behind square for fours whenever he dropped short. Ultimately a Webley slow bouncer / long hop achieved the crucial breakthrough of removing Shah - top edge looped to Roy at midwicket. The skip's struggle behind the stumps with byes was an indication of the inconsistent pitch. Smith bowled a very good first change spell and for once got some reward with wickets. Andre, at a lowly number 9, briefly set aside concerns at his team's bickering to threaten Pacific at the last but Smith held on at cow corner to give Pacific victory.
