Unhappy as Lahri
Pacific v Church End CC at Wilf Slack Grd
Sun 10 Sep 2006 at 1pm
Lost 8 Wickets
Friendly fixture

Thank God for a good post match social intermingle between the 2 sides as it was the only time they came close as opposed to the previous 3 & 1/2 hours.

With Captain Steve Lay delayed in traffic, tour top scorer James Smith cursing TFL as there were no tubes out of Archway, stand in skipper Peter Hollman was left wondering in which order the 3 who had turned up on time should bat. Jon Brown ultimatley plummeted from 3 to 8 but he became one of 2 golden ducks - the eponymous Larry Mohammed on debut was the other.

Matt Holliday with a broken jaw was absent hurt & Shayne Rees' no show became Pacific's first ever timed out batsman - so thank God Hollman won the toss to bat first.

A low insconsistent surface did nothing for free flowing batting (until Morris Seaton (58) took strike but that was in Church End's innings later) & Pacific's single aim was to bat out 40 overs & hope to attain a defendable total.

3 double figure score lead by Lucius Faisal (23) playing his first game of the season following injury was the best that Pacific could attain. That & the 41 extras ! The 2 solitary tourists, Hollman & Smith, who had enjoyed unprecedented succes in France on tour were back to Earth or in this case East Finchley, with a bump.

A total of 108 all out to defend scored in 28 overs was never going to be enough & so it proved. In fact Jamaican, Morris Seaton who scored 58 off 40 balls lead the charge & the Barclays Bank rebel side, Church End romped home with 23.5 overs & 8 wickets in hand.

Solitary successes by Gleadow & Brown stained the whitewash but it was more than Pacific deserved.

Sec Hollman said "we were pants" & Captain Lay could not disagree.

XI:- James Gleadow, Peter Hollman, James Smith, Jon Brown, Moses Hutchinson-Pascal, Lucius Faisal, Steve Lay* Alex McKillop & Lahri Mohammad.
