The weather wins
Pacific v Old Hendon at Wray Crescent
Sat 16 Jun 2001 at 2pm
Friendly fixture

A delayed start, an early tea plus 2 more rain breaks saw this re-arranged match finally abandoned after 11 overs at a soggy Wray Crescent.

OH 29-2 Mavadia 13. M Alexander 6-1-23-1. M Ralph 5-3-5-1

This was time enough for both opening bowlers Mike Alexander & Matthew Ralph in particular, to make an impression with the ball. The latter's wicket was a wonderful caught & bowled to dismiss the very dangerous looking Marriot for 3. Matt found a perfect line & length immediately & troubled the batters regularly.

Great form for him to take into P's forthcoming West Country tour. Meanwhile Mike Alexander at the other end, cut his run down to help him from slipping but occasionally overpitched which were impressively on driven by Mavadia into the vacant mid on area. Captain Steve Lay having to field with 10 as regular opening bowler Darryl Roberts had been delayed by Fleadh traffic. Unluckily for the latter, he arrived in time for tea but had missed all the action. Some what irritating, but particularly so as he'd returned to London from working in Brussels especially. Here's hoping he doesn't get waylaid on his way to Devon.

Mike did get his man in the end with a perfect yorker, & the game was nicely in the balance at 29-2 before one more final thundery shower drove all to the pub.
