Dream start for Murray and Pacific
Pacific v Homerton CC at Wray Crescent
Sat 21 Apr 2001 at 2pm
Won by 138 runs
Friendly fixture

P 208-4 dec. D Murray 104, S Lay 44* Raj 8-2-2-26
CP 70 all out. Diraj 16 D DeKeller 3-1-9-4

Pacific opened their season with a comfortable, yet satisfying victory. In the equivalent fixture last season, Chats had managed to hold out for a draw, but this year Pacific's bowlers possessed too much firepower. After a losing Joe Phelan in the second over, Pacific consolidated with a 42 partnership between Adrian Duthie (18) and David Murray, before Duthie succumbed to a rising ball from Chats paceman Ozzie (2-27) and was caught behind off the glove.

Steve Lay (44 not out) joined Murray and they put on 145 for the third wicket. Murray was out shortly before the end, bowled while trying to accelerate the scoring, for 104, the first Pacific century of the season, and a dream start for the Pacific number three in his comeback season, having missed last year through injury. Lucius Faisal added a quick fire 17 to bring the scoring up to 208.

In return, Chats never looked like making the runs with wickets falling steadily throughout the innings. For Pacific Dougal DeKeller was the pick of with 4-9, while Scott Kieran 1-17 , Jim Davies 2-24 also bowled well.

Unfortunately Chats batsman Robert DeVaney was unable to bat having been hit in the head while fielding in close and was taken to hospital as a precaution. Our wishes are with him for a speedy recovery.

Overall an excellent start for Pacific on the new relayed Wray Crescent pitch. David Murray said after the game, "The new pitch is a little slower than the old and provides plenty of movement for the bowler, while offering enough bounce for the batsmen to play their shots. Overall, its a good cricket wicket, but then I would say that, wouldn't I!"

Pacific: A Duthie, J Phelan, D Murray, S Lay*, L Faisal, P Attwood+, J Davies, D DeKeller, S Kieran, N Wright, M Rahman.
