And finally, some cricket. Paul Attwood picked up from last season & although never really looking in - he was dropped on 1, he held the innings together with an unbeaten 81, ably supported by Steve Lay.
PCC 211-2 dec. P Attwood 81*, S Lay 38*, D De Keller 28. Callaghan 8-0-31-1
CP 81-7. Devaney 15. A Godwin 7-0-22-3, R Allum 8-5-3-3
Earlier Dougal DeKeller who was one of 2 wickets to fall was caught by O'Grady 1st ball after drinks off the bowling of off spinner Sarah Barnard. Callaghan was the only other bowling success clean bowling Hollman. Meaningful batting practice then.
Pacific's 4 pronged seam attack including full debuts for Rob Allum & Adam Godwin paid early dividends, both of whom excelled with 3 wickets a piece. Chats never looked like seriously chasing the total so the battle was between Captain Lay's tactics, his bowlers & the resilience of Chats defence epitomised by their Captain Judith Carter. She did survive 1 scare when Hollman extracted a faint outside edge but Holliday failed to hold on.
Ultimately it was Judith, unbeaten on 9 having batted for 90 minutes - unbeaten. Steve tried everything including himself but as the gloom descended was unable to recall the out & out quicks - Mike Alexander & Rob Allum.
