Unfortunately we've been knocked out in the first round of the Victoria Park Cup, though it was at the hands of a strong opposition.
A real hop scotch of a side got to play in this fixture with a number of our more regular folk away and a few others had severe problems reaching Viccy Park on by far the nicest evening of the year so far. It was a real shame that many of our squad had busy real world commitments either on that day and Aroon himself was recovering from a long weekend away.
With so few of what would eventually be our 7 ready for the 6pm start, the opposition decided that they wanted to stake their case to bat first and to be honest straight away that killed the game as a contest. It was obvious that it was going to be chasing a lot of leather and that is what ensued. London Tigers would reach the very formidable target of 217 from their 16 overs. It wasn't as though some of the lads bowled that badly, just a very capable opposition knowing the dimensions of the field and using their strengths accordingly.
In response there was a fair effort from a couple of the players, with Greg Ayre playing a decent little cameo but it was always beyond us getting close and the game petered out with Pacific reaching 80-6. Thanks to Riz for filling in as one of the extra players we could scramble together. Hopefully with the promise of nicer evenings and a more competitive league season a few more folk will fancy a go in the fixtures to come.
