A very pleasing victory in a hard fought contest on a damp day. Skip Bastin won the toss and chose to bowl. Nuggsy and Hess, in his final game before departure to Singapore, continued to work well in partnership but they were not backed up by the fielding that shelled 5 chances. Strongroom clawed their way back into the game through Gower's dogged resistance and a biffer of a number 5. Smith and Webley bowled their usual super spells to keep Strongroom down to 182. Webley missed three chances in the field in what was a lacklustre fielding performance by the team.

Pacific's reply began solidly enough in the newly arrived steady drizzle but when Bastin fell at 80/4 the game was in the balance. Webbo batted patiently to see off Strongroom's top four bowlers before making hay against the part-timers (we were aided by Gower being unable to bowl due to the slippery conditions and his leaning back bowling style). Lahrie drove supremely - like watching Vaughan at his best. He outscored Jon for much of their partnership.

Strongroom Capatin Jon Gower said "The back is OK thanks, I just felt it jarr and didn't want to make it worse. We enjoyed the game, even though it was wet and in a losing cause. It's always a fixture we look forwards to, genuinely competitive and full of good cricket. Jon W played really well, and i enjoyed the contest between him and our better bowlers. We were missing bowlers at the end, as you could tell, and I opted to try and take wickets rather than tie things down in the final few overs, but there you go - that's captaincy for you"
