Pacific v East London CCC at Wray Crescent
Mon 04 May 2009 at 1pm
Won 7 wickets
Friendly fixture

Pacific lost the toss and were put in the field in dull, overcast, rainy conditions on a miserable day. Lucius and Roberts opened the bowling and used the conditions well, reguarly beating the bat and making scoring hard to come by. Both bowlers picked up early wickets which put Pacific on top from the outset, although the opposition seemed to be shuffling their batting order around causing confusion only to themselves as as Pacific took the initiative.

Gleadow and Smith kept up the good work, giving no respite as Lahrie kept Pacific on its toes claiming at the fall of each wicket "This guy can really bat". It may have been the motivation needed, as Gleadow claimed middle order wickets and Smith bowled extremely well with good pace, beating the bat several times with little luck and was unlucky to have the opposition skipper dropped by the Pacific skipper at first slip. Overall the standard and pressure in the field was impressive however, with good catches taken and runs saved by all fielders. Allum and Atkin claimed the lower order wickets to end East London's wickets, although both were expensive as Sayed opened up in a good knock.

Pacific's run chase started badly as the man with the golden hands went cheaply to a lifter from the erratic skipper of East London. Webley joined Atkin and dominated straight away, taking the attack to the opposition. With erratic bowling and extras scoring well Pacific was on top all through the batting innings, scoring easily a run a ball with minimal risk. Atkin struggled for timing but stayed at the crease for an hour accompanying Webley in an 85 run partnership, dominated by Webley and extras.

Once Atkin fell East London were in for a rude shock as Tempany flayed the attack for a 21 ball 34, in a partnership where both batsman reguarly found the boundary. Once Tempany departed Allum and Webley knocked off the remainder of the runs ensuring Pacific surpassed the target within 22 overs with plenty of batting in the shed.

All in all an impressive win by Pacific, with everyone contributing and good intensity levels displayed throughout the game.

Captain Chris said "All went well today. The bowlers did the job, and the fielding standard is getting better each game. We got the runs in around 20 overs as Jon was on fire, as was Darren for a short cameo. "

The final XI for Monday is Chris Atkin*, Rob Bastin, Lucius Faisal, Oli Haill, Lahri Mohamed, Rob Allum, Darryl Roberts, James Smith, Darren Tempany, Jon Webley, James Gleadow.
