Pacific v Walthamstow Horizontals at Broxbourne Sports Club
Sun 17 Sep 2006 at 1pm
Won by 7 wickets
Friendly fixture

Due to a nearby Battle of Britain re-enactment, there flew overhead a Lancaster, 3 microlites, 2 spitfires & as the game & Walthamstow Horizontals' season drew to a close, so did 2 air balloons too. With so much aerial entertainment, things were a great deal planer back on ground level.

One late Captain & a toss reversal later & Pacific were in the field. Seam up seam up & then some more seam up did the trick. The new ball did some swinging too for James Smith as he hit off stump on 3 occassions. Darryl Roberts was his usual parsimonious self although his gleaming attire made some suspect this was a new improved Daz. More steady bowling from Nigel Wilkinson's latest comeback with 3 wickets no less,+ some more steady eddies from Davies & Webley & all backed up some tight & efficient ground fielding that produced 2 run outs McKillop & Roberts. Stumper Emmins also impressed & lead the catching too.

Such a great team effort meant Pacific were left with a target of 133 & but for a great rearguard attack lead by some bold lower order hitting from Rahul Samma who hit 41 including 3 sixes before Webley had him smartly caught by Emmins down the leg.

The reply should have been uneventful but Hollman's & Lay's run outs gave The Horiz's a glimmer. Alex McKillop with his highest knock of the season put that idea to bed. Alex reached the half century landmark with a 6 over midwicket that cleared the River Lea. Nice one. His dismissal next ball was a shame but Lahri Mohammed who dispelled thoughts of a king pair smacked his 1st ball for 6 over mid wicket too & Jon Webley who looks in sumptious form himself knocked off the winning runs with 11.3 overs to spare.

XI:- Peter Hollman, James Smith, Steve Lay, Jim Davies*, Darryl Roberts, Nigel Wilkinson, Jon Webley, Alex McKillop, John Hill & Steve Emmins+, Lahri Mohamed.
