It was Kurt Rademaker's last match for Pacific before he heads back to Australia after 8 1/2 years so he was given the honour of captaincy in this inaugural fixture against Islington neighbours - the Wenlock Arms.
Sadly, for the Wenlock, however, they were without many of their key players & Pacific's revitalised top order built a huge total of 275-5 which included retirements fro Charlie David’s having scored his maiden Pacific century in his 2nd innings & Guy Wiehahn who notched up his 2nd half-century of the season. Jon Webley who has already made 2 hundreds at Wray Crescent was dismissed for 22 but Kurt declared with the score on 275 -5 after just 35 overs.
Despite the unseasonally warm weather & bright uninterrupted sunshine, Kurt wanted to press the advantage as The Wenlock faced an on fire James Gleadow – only deprived of a season's 2nd 5 wicket haul, as his captain wanted to utilise more of his fire power options. Debutant Simon Smith bowled straight & picked up wickets as did James Smith (no relation). The final wicket of the season went to Rob Bastin with the Wenlock still over 17 overs away from the sanctuary of a draw that never seemed likely as Pacific went clinically about their business.
STAT CORNER.1. Biggest win in runs overtaking by 2 runs the win versus KTPO on 24th June 1984 whe Pacific racked up 275-4 in 30 overs at Tufnell Park.
STAT 2. Kurt one of 3 Australia House employees & Pacific Full members who has left this season to return to Australia all of which captained in their last match but Kurt was the only one to end on a successful note.
