Pacific crashed to their second defeat on tour as they were again easily beaten - this time by a South Devon side bolstered by South African pro Loots. After posting a respectable 161, Pacific were unlucky not to make an early breakthrough and South Devon coasted home by 6 wickets.

Pacific 161 All Out (Pete Hollman 37, Dan Fitton 36, Dukes 2-9, Stanyer 2-23, Loots 2-28)

South Devon 162 for 4 (Amery 56, Shepherd 32, Leon Yates 3-36)

South Devon got off to a great start after inserting Pacific in Newton Abbott. Guest pro Loots soon broke up the experienced opening pair of Peter Hollman and Ben Hardisty by bowling Hardisty first ball. Leon Yates (1) was also soon undone by the South African's extra pace and bounce - so it was left to the veteran pair of Hollman and Jonathan Campbell to rebuild the innings with a stand of 55.

However Loots was to break up this pair too - pulling off a spectacular one handed catch at square leg to remove Campbell for 17. Richard Lawrence joined the ailing Hollman in a stand of 31 but then both fell with the score on 89, leaving the Pacific innings hanging in the balance.

Enter local boy Dan Fitton, who along with hop-along Jim Davies (1) ensured the innings did not subside too soon. Having added 33 for the 6th wicket, the Welshman was given run out controversially by skipper Darryl Roberts as the batsman felt he had hobbled home - ending his painful (in more than one sense of the word!) innings. He was soon followed by his father-in-law John Kollosche, less contentiously given out lbw by Roberts for 1. There was some late hitting from Oliver Haill (10), a massive first ball straight six from Marcel Boonaert as Fitton reached 36, leaving skipper Roberts to enjoy three dropped chances on his way to 5 before being caught!

Marcel Boonaert (6 overs for 9) and Ollie Haill (5 overs for 12) could easily have had several wickets in their impressive opening spells - with the first run coming in the fifth over - but after a number of plays and misses South Devon's openers found their touch against skipper Roberts (4 overs for 34) and to a lesser extent Richard Lawrence. Roberts can however count himself unlucky that a routine chance fell to the hapless Peter Hollman - who put down what was thought to be his 20th catch of the season.

It needed Victorian veteran spinner Yates to claim a wicket in his first over, a smart stumping from Fitton. He went on to grab another two to end with 3-36 but by this stage the game was pretty much up for Pacific as South Devon's middle order raced towards the victory post.

"I'm gutted," said skipper Roberts later. "Quack quack!" added Ben Hardisty.

MOM: Dan Fitton - a fitting reward for a vital 36 and a fine display behind the stumps.

Packing the Kit: Darryl Roberts - a dodgy decision to give out a teammate, 3 drops when making only 5 and then 4 overs for 34 for the skipper.

Duck Man: Ben Hardisty.

XI: Hollman, Hardisty B, Yates, Campbell, Lawrence, Fitton +, Davies, Kollosche, Haill, Boonaert, Roberts D *
