Luke's screamer at slip
Pacific v Tower Hamlets at London Fields
Sat 07 May 2022 at 1pm
Won by 4 wickets
North East London Cricket League

Saturday started at 12pm for PCC with fielding drills and coaching on how to remove the square fencing without getting the rope tangled. For Tower Hamlets though, the match started at 1pm for just a handful of their players, meaning the inevitable outcome of PCC taking to the field first.

Sam kicked off the attack running up the hill with the taller of the JD’s ambling down it. With a damp track and clouds overhead both got some good movement and all of a sudden Tim’s insistence on catching practice paid off, with a flurry of catches coming across the park. Special mention to Luke’s diving one-hander in the slips – with no one being more surprised it stuck than Luke, who looked like he’d found that fiver he’d lost down the back of the sofa when he held up his right hand.

At drinks PCC were on top – with Tower Hamlets scraping it to 105 for 7.

Perhaps it was overconfidence, or the smell of the green stuff floating across the park, but PCC let the tail wag and Tower Hamlets made it through to the 39th over only for Luke to cap off a good spell with by showing he was getting ready for the latest rule changes and nonchalantly whipping off the bails at the non-striker’s end leaving TH all out for 217.

Other bowling mentions for the smaller JD, who secured a familial six-fer, as well as Jack and Tom, with the latter leaving divots in the soft wicket that would get you banned from a council run golf club.

Despite losing a couple of early wickets, PCC looked comfortable chasing down the total. Toby settled into his rhythm getting into the 40’s before the umpire was persuaded by some theatrical appeals to give him LBW. Dan H on debut looked assured, if not a little Kevin Pietersen-esque, for his 67 on debut. Tom played well for 11 before playing across the line and forcing Mutz to unpack his bag and get padded up.

With the final runs in touching distance, Luke decided to finish off a personally noteworthy day by running out the smaller JD and then knocking the ball for 6 to win the match.

PCC won by 4 wickets.
