Indoor cricket veteran Steve Lay hit an unbeaten 25 as Pacific avenged last season's defeat to the same opposition with a relatively comfortable 4 wicket win.
Orangehillians 63 All Out (Jonathan Campbell 2-0-5-1, Matt Ralph 2-0-20-2, Jim Davies 2-0-9-1)
Pacific 66-2 (Steve Lay 25*, John Baglivi 9*)
Accurate and hostile bowling resulted in Orangehillians being bowled out - backed up by tight fielding - with Shayne Rees claiming two catches - including a spectacular one-handed effort.
Despite the early loss of Jim Davies for a duck and a Matt Ralph run out - Pacific always seemed in control. The experienced pair of Lay and skipper John Baglivi worked the ball around. With Lay retired not out on 25 - it was left to Jonathan Campbell to secure the win with a flourish by hammering a straight four.
“It was great to get off to a winning start for a change†said Lay later. “I was pleased to get some runs and the target was always gettable if we kept our heads†he added.
