The end of season dinner ended the season with a dinner and some awards.
If you click that tweet you get a thread of all the awards plus photos.
If you carntbearsed then stay here. But hold on, cos it's gonna get exciting.
Well done to all the award winners and all those nominated. We think everyone was nominated for at least one award! Getting mini bats for centuries were Sharmageddon (3 tons), K-dog, El Ormo, Stocko (plus 1k runs in the season) and Toby - 2 tons and most runs of the season.
Bowling awards for Korgy's 8-fer and Stocko for being most wicketest player of the season. Plus pre season comps, Shaz Badger for 10-pin, Alygator pool, Chickdog for TT.
Fielder of the season went to gloveman extraordinaire Sumeet, also well deserved to get an award as he missed out on most improved and player of the season. 11 stumpings and 14 catches in 20 apps. 900 runs with the bat too. Astounding season (he was several people's player of the season).
Best newcomer was very hotly contested. Winner was Yorkshire's John Ormesher, who showed mean skills with bat and ball, plus offered to buy a full round if we ever went a full match without dropping a catch. Runners-up Umrish, James McG, Bing, Rob, Dempsey, Jas.
Most-improved player was Sam Howes, after changed from leg-spin to seam. He only took up cricket a few years ago, so it looks like he's gonna keep getting better and may keep winning this awards a few more times. Aroon not far behind as runner up, also Sumeet, Creatures, Ki, Soden in there.
Then the 'chairman's awards', starting with our literary award for match report of the season - winner was Tom Ireland for his wild western after the Chigwell game and winning a nice book. Honourable mentions for Benny B for his Reggae-themed epic and his tour diary, Mullenski for Sharmageddon, PBD for his taxi tales (need to find link), Stocko for [REDACTED] and Matt Dempsey for his swimming pool of consciousness.
Champagne moment was voted as the 8-fer of Aroon and Ben B's lifetime best of 70 vs Homerton… Honourable mentions PCC on Chesil Beach, Abomb's one-handed grab, Sharmageddon, Umrish's drunk sub fielding catch, Toby's 8 off one ball, Ari's "shit ball mate" against Chiggers.
After being told -- rather unfairly we think -- that the club had a "toxic atmosphere", we introduced a one-off Keeping It Toxic award, which had a triple winner: Stocko for his general worldview, skipper Chickdog turning up 2 hours late and fielding like crap, and Jay (sub fielder Shaz). Their trophy: shots from the bar!
Then onto serious matters. After the tragic early death of our much loved friend Nuggsy, we introduced the inaugural James Gleadow Clubman of the year award. Winning the award was Tim Garrett (who joined us via satellite link) with big cheers to Walt, Mutz, Toby, Ki, Pete, Shaz, Ben, who all got many votes, while several others were mentioned in dispatches.
Following that and last award of the night was player of the season. And picking it up for the second year in a row was Yorkshireman Ben Stockton, for many destructive innings, more than 1,000 runs and a healthy haul of 35 wickets. Well played big lad and hard luck to Toby and Sumeet, who both had very good seasons and were not far behind.
A hugely memorable season for mainly good reasons and some sad. But a big thanks to everyone - well played all.
