Ex-ceptional effort by fab five
Pacific v Ex Pats at
Victoria Park Pitch 1
Thu 28 Jun 2018 at 7pm
Lost 7 wickets
Victoria Park Community Cricket League fixture
Possibly due to England playing Belgium in the World Cup, we played with five and we scored 210 runs. Unfortunately we lost! If we had one more fielder we may have done it! Well done Mutz, Justin, Jaz, Riz and Jamie. What follows is an eyewitness report:
The time is 7.05pm and the skipper is ticking, expletives are a plenty, “where the beep beep are the rest of them, why the beep didn’t he let me sort this, beep beep beepâ€. The rest of the team are watching the stand-in skipper losing all his senses with his rage. One team member, the largest one, rises and gives a stirring speech. "Could have been straight out of gladiator," the rookie says. Overflowing with belief, the five went out to battle, sorry bat. Could the impossible be done, could they better the eight? The no kit man and the biker opened, the big hits flowed. The angry skipper on the sidelines trying to grab any passer-by that was available. One young man approached him. He carried two bats. The angry skipper made his move. A wicket went down and Two Bats came out on to the field. With elegance he did his work and then left. 48 he scored with one of his two bats. The stranger was never to be seen again and once again there were five. The biker and the no kit man also smashed many and the rate was over 10. The big man then came out and got 50 off 12 balls - as the big man does. The oceanic team put on a score of 210 off 96 balls - a heroic effort.
The belief was strong. Could it be done? The big man kept wicket and the rest were to bowl. The rookie spun well but, alas, having only three fielders, even he was plundered. The record total of 210 was bettered. The real winners were these 5.25 men. Angry skipper, big man, no kit man, biker, rookie and Two Bats.
