After a bank holiday of rain the ground that greeted an unusually early Pacific side was soggy and with a wicket indistinguishable from the outfield. There was a thorough warm up with plenty of fielding drills! Darren won a crucial toss and inserted Bentley Heath.
From the moment their number two chipped a simple loopy catch to Saif at mid-wicket off the third ball the match looked done and dusted. That was followed by a golden duck for their number three bowled off his pads. The innings continued through intermittent showers and there was no sawdust so both bowlers struggled for grip underfoot and Gleadow's line was unusually wayward and Sheldon bowled a little short at times. At one point as Sheldon was running in the ground was covered in a shimmering white layer as the hail hammered into the ground - a scene to summarise the vagaries of cricket in May in England. Rademaker slipped bowling his first ball but got a wicket with it. Smith and he bowled superb lines to wrap up the innings. The oppo number six looked a quality bat but he ran out of partners.
There was a quick turnaround. The sun finally came out for a consistent period for the Pacific innings. Hollman and Richards eased Pacific home against some pretty average bowling. The only hiccup was Richards injuring a knee and thus requiring Webley to run for him. A nice tea was consumed after the match.
