Our first win in September. The Pacific players gathered early under grey skies at a windswept Broxbourne. Unfortunately the opposition did not do so until an hour later meaning a late start and a game reduced to 35 overs aside. Yarl won the toss.
Yarl's innings was decapitated by Nuggsy who bowled with his usual line and length to take 6-17 off his seven overs. Tempany took a fine low catch at mid off and Webbo held a very sharp chance low to his right at slip. Hess bowled with his usual menacing pace at the other end and was unlucky that Holliday spilled a couple of chances. The change to spin suited Yarl's 7th wicket pair and they doubled the score (incl one huge six over the sightscreens and into the middle of the hockey pitch) before Aroon bowled one of them. Haill turned a beauty through the hard hitting left handers gate and claimed the last two in the same over (one a smart stumping by Holliday where the batsman's foot had only marginally left the ground)
A good tea was happily munched by players and our sturdy band of three supporters.
The low target enabled the skip Tempany to rotate the batting order. He was not let down with Moses playing particularly well and a cruise to victory against an admittedly good bowling attack seemed likely. However, Webley was bowled and then Tempany triggered by Lahrie first ball. Thankfully Haill kept his head down and hit some boundaries whilst Holliday played the anchor role to see us home.
No balls were lost which is a rarity for a second square game at Broxbourne. Yarl's batting was not much kop. Their bowling attack was strong in depth but lacked a bowler who looked capable of running through us and their fielding was ropey. Nuggsy got away lightly with buying two jugs on a day where he got the best bowling figures of the season so far, his club best, his 50th of the season and his 200th for the club and a five for.
