Crashed & Burned ... but inconsequential
Pacific v Barnet Bs CC at Middx Ckt Academy
Sun 24 Nov 2002 at 5.30pm
Lost 60 runs
Winter 6-a-side fixture

The final group match began with qualification assured but not knowing whether as group leaders or runners up. Sadly, the foot came off the pedal completely & a poor performance with the ball & in the field was sadly compounded by an appalling display of batting. There were exceptions with Tim Marshall giving the ball more air & turn & returned the best figures.

There were no wickets to a bowler however - but 5 run outs. Ultimately those wickets lost by Barnet when progressing from 91-1 to 110-5 could mean their failure to progress with Hertford 2 needing to win their last game & edge out Barnet at their expense. This made for some interesting banter with Barnet keeper - Josh Knappett advising Captain John Baglivi when 5 down & needing 88 runs off 5 overs with 1 wicket in hand that "the pressure was on John". John's cool response was that there was no pressure because unless Barnet could take another NINE wickets, Pacific's place was assured - so John just batted out the overs unperturbed. This amusing aside however, does nothing to gloss over an appalling batting display7-0 off 1 became 10-3 off 2- the game was virtually up from there. Matt Ralph was even out withoutfacing. No room for complacency if Pacific are to progress further then.
