With mid-summer being in full flow, Pacific turned up to Victoria Park one short due to some shocking diary management by their regular Keeper. One short and more importantly a gloveman down, the enviable task of stopping leg-side balls fell to Chandler and McKillop.
With the toss lost, but the battle won by having the luck to have been inserted, Pacific flirted outside off-stump on a regular basis as Field got his eye in and proceeded to knock the bowling to all parts. With Smith departing for 1, The Man From Ankle Purcell strode to the crease and chalked up 19 with relative ease proving that his 2-month lay-off had not been detriment to his class. Field eventually departed for 38, unlucky not to have reached a half-century against determined bowling, especially from the nagging Alamin. In marched Chandler with third bat of the season in hand, who immediately proceeded to push Pacific's hopeful target of 150 into likelihood. However, 131 was all that Pacific could muster despite some lusty straight hitting in Chandler's 35* off 25 balls, and determined strike rotation from McKillop.
And so to the task of defending 131 with only 7 men, and the covering of a keeper. How many balls can you juggle at once?? Gleadow and McKillop started brightly with the latter proving ever cheap and cheerful in his 4 overs for 22, easily his most consistent spell of the season. However, the target proved an easy chase as all Mo and Tanjeem needed to do was push for the 1s and look for the plentiful 2s. Although very few boundaries were struck, the extra man did prove telling and although Pacific came back into it with Aroon starting cheaply and Chandler notching 2 cheap wickets with varied pace and length, the 132 needed proved gettable with 9 balls left. A solid performance from Pacific with good fielding and a determined attitude at least gave them credit on a night unfortunately without any stars.
