Pacific CC came into the final game of the NELCL knowing a win would guarantee fourth and, if St Clemens were to beat IDLCC as well, Pacific would reach the lofty heights of third. Tensions were high knowing metaphorical silver(bronze)wear was on the line.

Tim was in good spirits initially having put out a strong team for the fixture, bringing in a few of Pacific's Sunday contingent, but was soon dismayed as many of the team did not turn up for his 11.30 meet time. Spirits were renewed somewhat when he won the toss and opted to bowl on a damp, grassy Millfields wicket.

Balash and JK set the tone nicely, bowling tightly on a tricky pitch. The dividends of this soon started to pay off, as the top order began to fall in quick succession. Hishaam backed the openers up nicely with a quick, accurate spell, picking up 2 wickets in the process. JK then finished off his spell with the ball that some critics are dubbing 'The Ball of The Century', leaving Stamford Hill reeling at 57-7 after 16 overs. 

Stamford Hill mounted a comeback, with their obstinate keeping scoring 23* of 68, with his partner doing some damage at the other end. Tight bowling from Jack, Tim and Riz however meant the score never went out of control. Pacific were doing their best not to break the partnership; Ramiz, despite having the largest hands of a Pacifico ever (data on this is partial at best), dropped an absolute dolly at mid-on and Tristan (who kept brilliantly otherwise, saving 15+ runs in wides) missed a simple chance for his first ever stumping.  Tim eventually managed to break the partnership and the last 2 wickets fell quickly after that. Stamford Hill had set Pacific a 127 to win, certainly under-par, but given the trickiness of the wicket and the significance of the result, a tricky chase was expected.

Mark and Tristan opened up for Pacific. The chase began cautiously with a few plays&misses and with Tristan being dropped (a common occurrence this season) after skying the ball to cover. The pressure was building and Stamford Hill provided some lively chat, making sure the openers were aware of the difficulty of batting on this pitch. Mark Metha soon escaped 'The Hole' by beautifully clearing his front foot to deposit the ball over the midwicket boundary, and with the swagger of Viv Richards provided a knowing look to the dugout and the Stamford Hillians. The excitement was short-lived however, with Mark being clean bowled of the very next ball, leaving the field of play looking like a 'right mug'. Tristan soon suffered a similar fate, being bowled immediately after striking a sweet boundary. 

Coming out at 30-2, Ramiz and Dan soon quietened the the murmurs of a Pacific collapse that were beginning in the dug out. The pair played excellently, waiting for the bad ball and running hard, making what should have been a tricky chase look comfortable. Dan fell LBW for a well-made 28, Aakash then played himself in before unleashing a flurry of boundaries over mid-off boundary, as the target drew closer. Ramiz fittingly hit the winning boundary, capping off an excellent innings.

Celebrations began and a few Pacificos head to the Princess of Wales, where attention soon turned to the ongoing IDLCC vs St Clemens game, helpfully being scored live on play cricket. St Clemens had set IDLCC 160 to win. IDLCC seemed to be in control at 132-4, and with that, hopes for a bronze medal finish for Pacific seemed far fetched. However a Pacific-esque collapse ensued for IDLCC and the final pair required 10 for victory. Tensions were high in the PoW; a final refresh of play cricket, in between chatter about Mark Metha's calendar antics, revealed the match was tied, leaving us joint on points for third with IDLCC. Frantic discussion on NRR and head-to-head ensued. Tim remained calm, bringing up the official rule book to reveal that in the event of equal points, final league position would be decided on head-to-head, sweet relief to Pacific who had beaten IDLCC 3 weeks previous. 

And that was it folks, Pacific had officially secured their highest finish in the NELCL, capping of an excellent season in the league.
