On a drizzly afternoon a bunch of Pacificos climbed up Highgate hill to play what resembled the closest ever yours truly would get to a proper cricket ground.
Having lost the toss on a greenish wicket our opening bowlers went to work.
Simon bowled a lively spell testing the openers with seam movement ably supported by Sunny. Both were rewarded with wickets which did justice to their efforts.
Then the Guildford Two (Ahmed+Mohan) went to work in their customary fashion spinning a web of deceit. Ahmed especially had their middle order in knots, certain dodgy decisions notwithstanding.
The field placements and changes made by Jas (skipper) were well executed to keep the scoring within reasonable limits.
A special word of mention for Col Pollard who showed us all what commitment meant in the field. That inspired a few of us to do our best to keep up the standards.
With a target of 210 to win,our openers Ben OC and 'Mr Dependable' Toby started tentatively but held firm against the swinging, seaming cherry.
Ben had his moments(ugly but effective shots) that made sure the run rate kept ticking along nicely.
Toby did what Toby does. Enough said. Reputation precedes and all that.
The middle order(Jas, Ben Burnham and Sam Farnham) all played some superb strokes to keep us within sight.
Sam deserves a mention due to his 4 scintillating boundaries.
The climax deserves it's own Netflix documentary.

In what turned out to be a horror for the bowler who bowled more illlegal deliveries than legal ones in his spell. Alright, that was artistic licence but everyone hopefully gets the point.
Mohan hit a 21 ball 50,most of which came in that ONE OVER [ed - there were 42 runs from it, later confirmed as a Pacific record].
With that we recorded a comfortable victory over a club with a rich tradition.
The thoroughbred had well and truly outgunned the colt.
