P were able to temporarily lift the gloom of England¹s CWC exit by winning
the toss here & capitalising on 7 dropped catches.

Openers Hollman (94) &
Attwood (100) put on 204 for the 1st wicket - the 3rd highest ever& only 8
short of the all time highest of 211 set in 1987. Recalling B¹s fine batting
talents from 1998, Captain Wilkinson held off his declaration to attain 250
which he agreed in retrospect, did not leave enough time for his bowlers to
take all 10 wickets.
B¹s target was 248 in 42 overs at 5.9 per over. the
climax of the P¹s innings earlier meant several wickets went cheaply but
Barton in particular deserved far better than 2-42 which was still B¹s best
return off the day.
In trying to take the 10, Nigel did use 9 bowlers & Matt Holliday picked up
his best return & P¹s on the day. P¹s fielding impressed as the attacking
fields left the gaps for B to score.
Matt¹s leg spin if slightly expensive
therefore paid its own dividends & with the 9th wicket of Boggis falling in
the penultimate over to Murray, Barton had 6 balls to see off Hollman which
he did succeed in doing.
Regrettably, the fixture was lost for 2000, so the record stands p5 w1 d4.
