Our performance may not have been helped by the news that Pacific legend James Gleadow had died this week, leaving some of us distracted and/or hungover. Still, it was good to see so many friends of the club, including James's parents, turn up to watch at Wray on a sunny October day. If only we could have put on a better show for them in our black armbands. Before the game there was a round of applause for James, and club founder Pete Hollman said a few words.

Then the cricket commenced. Credit to CCA for batting with such positive intent but our fielding was pretty terrible as catches went down left, right and centre, to the understandable exasperation of the day's skipper Rizwan Siddiqui. Well done to him and Ahmed Hussain for hanging on to hard chances though.

Despite the mammoth task, Ben Stockton looked like he might win us the game, but when he fell for 89 victory looked almost impossible, though some lusty blows from emergency stand-in Aly Duncan and from Sharan Timbadia at least gave the crowd something to cheer about.

Many thanks to James's parents, Ruth and Tim, for kindly buying us some beers to drink after the match. Several players spoke movingly about James's contribution to the club as we raised a glass to him. He will be remembered.
