2 batsmen in form Saleem 68 & T McIlwane 111 moved the score on from 0-1 to
155-1 as nothing Captain Nigel Wilkinson could do could stop their vast
array of shot playing.
TB : 218-4. T McIlwane 111. A Duthie 1.1-0-4-2.
P : 165-7. P Hollman 42. S Lay 40*. Holder 9-0-42-3.
Encouragingly it was a good comeback for quickie
Darryl Roberts on the eve of his 28th birthday who picked up 2-60 off his 13
overs & late arrival Adrian Duthie with 2 wickets in 8 balls which
encouraged the declaration. To find a solid base without exposing a
vulnerable batting line up was the task for the top 3 & despite some
excellent probing off spin from Captain Sanders 17-5-47-3, Pacific were able
to reach the final hour on 75-1 needing 7.2 per over with 8 wickets in hand
but risk taking was their undoing as wickets began to fall. Peter Hollman' s
season's best & top score 42 with 17 overs remaining increased the pressure
& precipitated the fall of several wickets lost to the chase. Steve Lay
remained resolute & was still at the crease on 41* when stumps were drawn.
