It was a comprehensive defeat but an achievement to get a game in as the "drought" continues. Pacific went into bat in drizzle on a wet pitch. Vincent Croft took 45 balls to get off the mark - a club record! There had previously been two instances of a Pacific batsman taking 44 balls get off the mark (see below), but now Vince has outdone them. A bit of acceleration helped Vince to five runs off 56 balls, before he top-edged one to square leg.

Rob batted well for 19. Giaco Bridgett ran himself out for 1. Thankfully Harshdeep was dropped and went on to make an accomplished 56, including three sixes and three fours. Richard Whiteoak, on debut, managed to collide with the keeper in his four runs. Stu "Caveman" Hopper made 27 with some lusty blows (three sixes, one four). Avijit, playing his second match for Pacific, recorded another blob, and is yet to make a run for the club. He was unlucky to pick out the fielder and will surely score runs in his next appearance. A few runs from Tony and Ahmed helped us to 147 all out with only three balls unused in the innings.

Then it was Turnham Green's turn to bat. Opening the bowling, Giaco tried earnestly as ever and skipper Toby bowled economically, taking the only wicket with a smart catch by Rob behind the stumps. But the bowling lacked any real threat against strong batsmen on a pitch that had dried out as the day went on. There were a few unforced errors in the field and a dropped catch that we could have done without, meaning the oppo cruised home with 12 and a half overs to spare.

The day was rounded off with a barbecue whilst watching the FA Cup Final. A big thanks to Turnham Green for getting a game on.
