Narrow defeat on a sunny day at picturesque Broxbourne. Both teams were short and Broxbourne displayed great patience whilst skip Nuggsy prevaricated on whether to field - not helped by Holliday being half an hour late.
A very good bowling and fielding performance on a slow wicket looked to have given us upper hand. Brown bowled well before a back injury halted his work. Richards took a stunning slip catch. NL Robinson, who averaged 37 for their 1st XI this year so perhaps batting a little low, came in and smashed 38 at number 11 to give Broxbourne hope.
A great tea was merrily wolfed. Casserole the highlight.
The Pacific batting lacked powerhouses such as Webley, Tempany and Bastin and that told. Ali was superb in making 41 in what was probably his last appearance before parenthood (good luck Ali!). Nuggsy scratched around against the spinners before getting going on his way to a career best and with the help of Mullens kept game alive. Unfortunately, Aroon was the victim of worst call of the year from Nuggsy - runs to short point don't work!. Brown was bowled with two overs left.
You don't win many games with only two batsmen getting to double figures. However, a good day where everyone got a game under a warm sun on the main square which along with the merits of German barbecues was debated whilst consuming a jug of Fosters.
