Record Breakers
Pacific v North Middlesex at Wray Crescent
Sat 23 May 2009 at 1.00pm
Won 252 runs
Friendly fixture

Roy Castle, the late, great Record Breaker, used to sing that if you wanted to be a record breaker "dedication’s what you need". Either that, Roy, or compete against a team of under-15s on a small boundary. North Middlesex Fifths in this case.

That said, the innings from newcomer Toby 'Chicken' Chasseaud was still a brilliantly executed knock. The club record he has smashed and grabben for himself is that of the most sixes in an innings, with 12, while the 142 he scored ranks as the fifth highest ever in club history and was the second fastest century (with the ton coming from 62 balls, the first 50 being made off 29).

Along with an even more express innings from another newcomer in Saif Shamsuddin, who could have attracted IPL scouts with an amazing 50 off just 18 balls (Beat that, Darren!), the team made the highest ever score for Pacific, racking up the first ever 300 with a final total of 327. Other notable scores include a captain's fifty from Rob Bastin, getting out just as he passed the mark, and twenties that paled in comparison from Oli Haill and Steve Lay.

After 'Sat' Nav Vinod rattled through the callow ranks of the North Middlesex Fifths from his Simon Jones-like run-up and spin demon Aroon Korgaonkar bemused the tail, the team had also notched up a further record. This was, a defeat of 252 runs, the largest ever win in terms of runs.

Preceding the match, previous opponents North Two pulled out, presumably worried about the expedition from the wilds of East Finchley on public transport and Wray's notorious Sabina-like bounce. Luckily for Pacific, in no time at all, the big club from the other side of Crouch End filled the fixture, sending their Fifths, who are designated in the conference as 'medium'.

For the Norris McWhirters and the Steve Lays, the other records include the fourth club game with three 50 partnerships.
