Squirrels must have regretted their decision to bat first when they were left reeling at four wickets down for just four runs, with James Gleadow taking three quick wickets. At that point many Pacific players were looking forward to an early finish followed by a beer match. But how wrong they were!

A massive sixth-wicket partnership between Ceri (109) and Holmes (93, including seven sixes) turned the game around. With some clean hitting and the odd stroke of luck they carted the bowlers around the park.

A late flurry of wickets thanks to braces from Justin Roy and Rob Bastin (after he had taken the keeping gloves off) had Squirrels finish nine down. But the damage had been done with a mammoth 266 on the scoreboard, partly because Pacific had fielded only ten players.

Openers Toby Chasseaud and Vincent Croft put on a respectable 42 for the home side's first wicket. But other than skipper Bastin, who hit 24 before gloving one to the keeper, the middle order struggled and it was left to Saif Shamsuddin (65*) and James Smith to salvage the innings.

Unfortunately their heroics weren't enough and Pacific finished on 226 - 40 runs short. The Squirrels got their nuts, and it was Pacific who were left with their tails between their legs.
