Sleeping With The Pitch
Pacific v Isis at Queens College
Sat 25 Jul 2009 at 2pm
Won 134 runs
Friendly fixture

Jon Webley batted so well & scored another ton here that he (as well as a few others) camped pitch side ahead of the game against UCS Old Boys. Meanwhile Jon didn't quite take all the plaudits despite deserving them.

PRESS RELEASE printed in the Islington Gazette

Islington based Pacific CC undertook a short tour of Oxford over the past weekend which included a fixture against local club Isis. This was the 11th match between the 2 sides & Pacific hadn’t won since 2006 in this annual fixture.

With Jon Webley scoring his 3rd  ton of the season while scoring 159 not out off 113 balls including 6 x 6s, Pacific’s total was eminently defendable & the home team’s weakened batting line up were in no way confident of reaching their target of 256.

The stage was set for young leg spinner Luke Hollman who was able to extract turn both ways & with the help of a nimble Rob Bastin behind the timbers who picked up 2 stumpings & a caught behind to add to Luke’s earlier successful LBW. Worthy figures of 8 overs 2 maidens 4 wickets for 23 runs for any bowler.

Although this bowler is 8 years old & playing his 4th adult match of the season & now tops the Pacific bowling averages.

On Tuesday it’s back to playing for North Middlesex U11s against Primrose Hill C.

The Yerbury boy remains hopeful that he is recalled to trial for Middlesex U10s in this upcoming off season & hopes to earn a recall to the London Schools U10s.

His father said “he’s completely absorbed by the game of cricket & is at his happiest when he’s in the middle either bowling or batting or keeping. For any 8 year old to even be in the field for 40 overs on the Saturday & another 62 on the Sunday as he was is a huge achievement among his peers in itself. He just keeps on impressing & has an unquenchable desire to become a professional & play for Middlesex one day”.
