Wonderful ground, wonderful game, wonderful hospitality. Why can't all cricket be like this ? & we won !
The inaugural fixture saw the tourists well on top with DW collapsing to 51-6 before Kiwi Mark Gough scored 63 to help achieve a tea time declaration of 151-8. Yet it could have been so different as he was dropped on 0 at cover point. Atkin & Gleadow were the pick of the bowlers with 3 a piece
In reply, Pacific also faultered at 35-4 but as the battle of the Webley generations was the focal point so their respective teams hopes of a win lay with them. Pacific Captain Jon was caught by dad off Hicks for 28 but the twice dropping of Darren Temapny was more expensive before being he was successfully caught by Hunt off Gough. Aussies Kurt Rademaker & Nick Fuller enjoyed the challenge of 6 an over & with little fuss knocked off the remaining 42 runs with an over to spare.
