The social season

Today is just 74 days to the curtain raising at the Wray Double Wicket Competition. Members are already netting indoors and out and filling their diaries with events led by the AGM and some friendly sporting competitions beginning with the Pool tourney in February.

There’s a truly great spirit around the club and a testing fixture list lies ahead. Three separate league competitions (NELCL on Saturdays, MEIL on Sundays and the VPCCL midweek). Two of those will also have cup competitions and for the first time the October Cup for teams who want to play after the official season has ended! Add to that the annual Lindridge McDougall Cup against UCS Old Boys. And finally, two one-off comps – the Nuffield CC six a side and the Broken Wicket at North Middlesex for local sides. Not to mention the first overseas tour for six years. A packed season indeed.

So let’s support the hardworking officers who provide the members with such a veritable feast of social and sporting activity.

It’s up to all of us individually to ensure that availability is given promptly, payments and subs are paid promptly and don’t be shy in helping out when you can. It’s great to see so many spread the burden around already so let’s keep that going.

Finally, there’s hope that there could be enough funds to begin the demolition of the pavilion and the rebuilding of the replacement. More news on this as it becomes available.
