Vic Park victory at last
Pacific v Victoria Lounge at Victoria Park Pitch 1  Wed 28-Jun-2017 at 6pm
Won 36 runs

Hot on the heels of Sunday's win against Hadley Wood Green, Pacific's winning ways continue with a victory over Victoria Lounge.

Aroon won the toss and elected to bat, with James Soden and Rizwan Mansuri opening against some effective swing and seam bowling that was far from laidback. Riz swung hard at the ball but struggled to connect, though he did manage to hook a six or two over the concrete path at fine leg. James was proactive in taking any runs that were there. When Riz was bowled for about 30 in probably the tenth over, this brought Toby to the crease for his first Victoria Park innings of the year. He was perhaps a little slow to get going before hitting three consecutive fours off off-spinner Tim. When Soden was trapped LBW in the final over, Jaime Hargreaves was able to face a single ball and do some scampering despite his latest niggle.

The batsmen's scores:
James Soden: about 40???
Rizwan Mansuri: about 25???
Toby Chasseaud: 27 not out
Jaime H: 1 not out
TOTAL: about 121 for two from our 16 overs

At the interval we feared that our 121(?) wasn't enough.

But tight opening spells from James and Riz brought rich rewards in the form of early wickets for not many runs. James had a batsman caught finely behind by Ant Bradley and Riz bamboozled them with his wavy-hand run-up.

Jaime also got in on the action, taking two wickets with his accurate bowling.

Kieran Mullens was electric in the field, taking two catches and executing what we convinced was a direct-hit run-out with only a single stump to aim at. Alas, the umpire had other ideas. Mullens also took a wicket or two.

Toby also took two catches and needed only three balls to wrap up the innings by getting top-scoring run-out-surviving left-hander to waft a catch (to Kieran) off a slow, wider delivery.

So Lounge finished on only about 80 runs.

Aroon marshalled a combination of Royal College of Surgeons and Pacific troops well and probably should have at least had a bowl but was suffering from his own niggle.

Mutz, who I think will be taking over midweek match managing duties while Aroon is in Greece, was, as ever, a reassuring presence in the field, first at long-on and then after the midway switcharound at point.

We celebrated our first Victoria Park victory of the season at the People's Park Tavern with pints of Ripper, Source and, in Kieran's case, a white Americano. Aroon rated his burger 8 out of 10.
