Winning in the rain
Pacific v Oakfield Parkonians CC at Oakfield Playing Fields  Sun 12-May-2013 at 1.30pm
Won 6 wickets

Giaco, Webbo and Nuggsy set the standard with some exemplary bowling on Sunday against a youthful and talented Old Parkonians side. Webley used the strong cross wind to his advantage, swinging the ball about half a yard and taking three wickets, the most notable being a catch of the season contender courtesy of Steve Richards at first slip. That said, Jon Brown, despite having pulled up with a hamstring injury, did make an effort to better it, pouching a ball that to all intents and purposes looked to be clearing his Crocodile Dundee-style hat at mid off, again from Webley's bowling. After Webley had bowled his full quota of 12 overs, he was replaced by Toby Chasseaud, who promptly took a wicket in his second over. Although OP were allowed some bonus runs towards the end of their innings, as the rain began to fall and misfields sneaked in, it was otherwise a performance to be proud of for the boys from Islington on a ground that provided value for shots.

As tea was consumed (samosas, sarnies, pineapple and melon the standard of teas this year has really improved) the rainclouds continued to drop their constant heavy drizzle. All credit to skipper Vikrum and the rest of the Parkonians, who took to the field with the minimum of fuss (albeit a bit late) to field in dire conditions. Steve Richards, a man who has had more comebacks than Chas and Dave, took advantage of the still quick outfield to help himself to his second half century of the season, showing off a full repertoire of shots before chipping a dolly to square leg. Long may his purple patch continue. After their 101-run partnership came to an end, Toby really started to open up and regularly find the rope. The game looked within the Pacifists' reach, Ravi and Webbo both playing vital supporting roles as Chass worked his way to 73 not out. (He has never been dismissed by Old Parkonians.) Our trusted Treasurer, keeping it village in a casual grey sweater, knocked off the winning runs within just 31 overs with a couple of lusty blows, and a good win was celebrated in the warmth of the pavilion by the PCC crew. Onwards and upwards!

(Note: this report was almost re-named 'Shinning in the rain' in homage to Ali and Giaco's tibia-cracking performances in the field. After the last couple of games we should seriously consider raiding the club kitty for some lower-leg protection for our right honourable Treasurer.)
