Title hopes dissolve in a wet draw
Pacific v Hadley Wood Green at Botany Bay CC  Sun 08 Sep 2013 at 1pm
Drawn
Middlesex & Essex Invitation League

The MEI League title slipped from the grasp of Ben Boorman and the Pacific team on Sunday, as the Islington men endured another damp draw with an embarrassingly negative HWG, who showed no interest in chasing a meager target of 210 with 51 overs to achieve the total, having won the toss and elected to bowl. After smashing 210 off 29 overs, largely thanks to the power hitting of Si Lawrence, who left his mark on the BBCC clubhouse, the declaration was made on the 29 over mark as the heavens opened.

During tea the skies cleared, although PCC's bowlers faced an uphill struggle as the surface was something of an ice rink, with the ball resembling a sodden bean bag. A super-attacking field was set, and the games began. HWG's openers looked as though they might have been considering having a go at the required 4 an over, if only by accident, but as wickets began to fall the Hadley batsmen reverted to type, and the war of attrition began. Bridgett and Chasseaud were undoubtedly the pick of the bowlers, the former generating a remarkable amount of swing off a short run up with a useless cherry, the latter having a trademark big impact from the moment he was introduced into the attack and yielding the most frugal of spells.

Despite throwing the kitchen sink, and Steve Richards, at the home side, Boorman's Pacific could only muster 7 wickets for their monumental efforts, and with news of a home win at South Loughton, the Islington men were consigned to second place at the end of an enjoyable league campaign.
