Pacific roll Over Stowey
Pacific v Over Stowey at Over Stowey  Fri 20 Jun 2003 at 2.30pm
Won 5 wkts
Friendly fixture

Pacific scored their first victory of the tour against the North Somerset side which included a sprinkling of London Electricity & SWEB employees winning by four wickets in a close but ultimately fairly comfortable victory. Set against a wonderful backdrop of the Quantock Hills & the distant (but rather uninspiring) view of the Bristol Channel & Wales, new skipper Steve Lay lost the toss and Over Stowey inserted themselves in a 40 over limited match.

Over Stowey 156 All Out (Woodley 57, Leon Yates 3-19, Darryl Roberts 2-21)

Pacific 157 for 5 (Chris Horne 28, Richard Lawrence 26*, Ryan Keary 25)

Marcel Boonaert and Darryl Roberts started strongly each taking an early wicket and both using the slope and wind to their advantage and wickets continued to fall.

King of the tour, wily Victorian veteran, Leon Yates was introduced with his twirling off breaks and he began to run through the OS line up. Oli Haill provided strong support but Carl Woodley for Over Stowey pounded an aggressive 50, in a crucial partnership with Peter Cork before being removed by fired up, mulleted Bob Willis.

Boonaert dropped an absolute dolly having just passed his sunglasses to the umpire to hold the previous over, and Hollman made it 21 catches in a row dropped when running in from long off to a low dive forward attempting to dismiss Carl Woodley a few balls before he was out to Yates. Over Stowey reached 156 in their 40 overs.

Pacific started tediously; aging kingmaker Hollman taking 20 overs to amass 20 and the other top order batsman taking their time. Two teenage rookies Chris Horne and Ryan Keary from Exeter provided some excitement but it was left to gnarled all rounder Campbell and new boy Lawrence to cart the bowling round the track and to get the required runs in 37 overs.

Supporter Namisha said after the game "well, I was disappointed that Tass didn't stick around but I guess shopping in Porlock was more exciting than watching this; however, Leon impressed with his googlies and it was good to see JC almost being bowled by a six year old. Quite a nice tea as well"

MOM - Leon Yates - 3-19 to the wily spinner

Packing the Kit - Marcel Boonaert - that dropped catch!

No Ducks!

XI - Hollman, Horne, Keary, Lay S, Hill J,Lawrence R, Campbell, Boonaert, Haill, Roberts D, Yates
