ALL HAIL THE KING!
Where to begin with this Coronation fiasco? As Jimmy Hill might have said, it was 'a real game of two halves'.
Let's start with the good - after losing the toss and having to bowl first on the Coronation weekend, the Pacific line-up put in a really decent display. A sensational opening burst from JK set the tone as he bowled with pace, discipline and bounce to finish with figures of 4-22. Hungin then nagged away with his left arm in-swing to take 3-32 and the Skipper came to the party late on with a quick burst of 3-12 to finish off the innings well inside the alloted 40 overs.
A quick word for our
Social Media-influencing keeper who, after misplacing his helmet,
took a ball in the face just days before an appointment at the Palace for tea with our freshly coronated Monarch! Luckily it was confirmed later in the week on Instagram that he was still able to fulfill this obligation and his best suit got a run out at the event.
The less said about the batting response the better. For some reason, on a wicket that did keep a little low we had decided that the back-foot was where to play. A succession of our brave boys were cleaned up hanging deep in the crease and there was an ugly run out as Mutz was 'encouraged' by the crowd to go for a 3rd but a communication breakdown with Burnham left him stranded. He was not a happy bunny as he trudged off.
Our fate was sealed when 79 yr old offie 'J Shaw' came on and with his second ball (first a wide) he cleaned up our No.10 to end the match.
