Saturday brought a new team to the fields of Wray Crescent in Chumpshire Cricket Club. With Mutz looking on concerningly, CCC went about setting up their very own camera and tripod. Clearly cricket was not going to the only competition today. The weather was cold and overcast but with the promise of sun coming out later in the afternoon – and so inevitably Tim did his best to lose the toss and Pacific went out to bat.
Two strong opening bowlers from CCC found their rhythm, which included some short-ish stuff on Wray’s new Astro wicket. Debutant Jamie showed that not all baggy-caps are ironic, and looked very solid for his 30-odd before holing out to a good catch. By this point the Jamie and Tristan had put on 50 for the opening wicket and when Mutz, and camera no.2, joined play.
Mutz, with some gentle encouragement, started well and found some form alongside Tristan and Pacific raced past the 100 mark. Mutz finally fell to some quality leg-spin ending an unnoticed 100-partnership from the pair.
Lokesh strode in and drove a beautiful shot to deep mid-off and refused a run. He then left his backfoot in-front of leg-stump and kindly allowed the ball to hit it – giving Jamie an awkward decision on his (Saturday?) debut which he duly took and sent Lokesh back to the non-existent changing rooms.
Zee joined Tristan and they carried on pushing Pacific’s total up before they both left with Tim and MaccyG/JimmyMac fulfilling the ‘finisher’ role – with a flurry of boundaries and excellent running between the wickets to leave Pacific on 273 after the 40.
With a very gettable total, Shahid and MaccyG started well, with some tight, pacey bowling. JimmyMac bowled one of the opening pair with a corker. Pacific pinned down CCC and well-made bowling changes brought about further wickets for Toby and Jack.
Korgy, Lokesh and Zee all got in on the action taking wickets themselves, leaving only Shahid to miss out on adding to his tally for the season – which was an unfair reflection of the quality of his overs.
Pacific wrapped things up by 6-ish, with CCC finishing on 120-odd, and were in the pub by 6.30pm.
