Harrow Willow win with three balls to spare
Pacific v Harrow Willow CC at Wray Crescent
Sun 29 Oct 2017 at 1.30pm
Lost by 2 wickets
Friendly fixture

Well, we got 50 overs in after the clocks went back – or 49.2 more accurately, with visitors Harrow Willow CC winning by two wickets with three balls to spare, ending the Pacific autumn winning streak at 7.

Seconds after the last footballers were cleared from the outfield, Pacific captain Rizwan Siddiqui lost the toss and saw his side inserted, with the captains agreeing to bowl five overs at a time from each end to maximise the over rate and get a game in before the now mid-afternoon sunset. Opener Jon Thornton led the way for Pacific with 56 from 63 balls, whilst captain Siddiqui powered a late 38 off 24 balls to boost the Pacific run rate up to a respectable 6.88. Less respectably, number three batsman Hogg found himself run out for the second time of the weekend.

With the sun setting quickly, the Harrow Willow innings got underway after the shortest of intervals with Paul Davis and Jonas Nisse opening from the same end. Pacific ground fielding was good although several catches followed the temperature on its way down - but Sumeet was having no such issues with the keeper's gloves, catching both openers behind. 50 partnerships for the second and fifth wickets gave Harrow Willow a strong platform although at seven down with 21 runs still to get, Pacific were right in the game. But visiting captain Karhik Raghavan took control of the situation and dealt well with an aggressive spell of bowling from his opposite number before punishing the more occasional bowlers to take the Willows closer to the finishing line. Number 10 batsman Parekh walked out with the scores level and promptly edged the winning runs through a vacant third slip to end a cold, but ultimately enjoyable contest, and with it, the Pacific outdoor season.

Enjoy your winter, gents, and thanks to Mark the Guv'nor for scoring.
