Friends Day
Pacific v London Fields at London Fields  Sun 18 Sep 2011 at 1pm
Lost 148 runs
Friendly fixture

A 'cake-like' pitch at London Fields tempted skipper Webley to bowl on winning the toss. Captains can rarely win with such decisions but at 230/1 it was not looking brilliant (not that this reporter would have done different). Nuggsy bowled a tight spell but failed to remove Friend first ball as he had when playing for the Occasional Casuals. Sam was very unlucky and Toby bowled well but could not hold the sharp return chance. Ultimately Pacific's bowlers were blown away by Friend's 172 retired (having broken the LF top score record). A total of 312/5 off 36 overs was aided by eight dropped chances (half dollies, half not).

The reply began as the heavens opened. Toby's 14 ball duck (against good bowling) epitomised the start as we struggled to 7/2 off seven overs. Our goose was well and truly cooked but Webley survived an early drop to caress and club his way to 80 odd and prevent abject humiliation. Nuggsy scored 31* as the game drifted to a conclusion so we at least registered half their score.

Well done to London Fields and particularly Friend who batted really well.

"They had a lot more strength in depth than us and could actually catch the ball! We must have dropped seven or eight catches," said skipper Webley.
