Pacific v Lessa Wanderers at EDF (formerly Lessa) Sports Grd  Sun 11-May-2008 at 2pm
Lost 87 runs

The home side's 18 year record for the highest partnership was broken when Macca & Clancy put on 195 together for the 4th wicket & took the game away from an under strength Pacific XI.

At 8-3 Pacific were right on top & Brown & Gleadow had accustomed themselves to their respective inclining & declining ends. Smart catches taken by Callender, Hollman & Pascal ensured the maximum was gleaned from the new ball & Gleadow in particular who got good bounce & movement.

Left hander Macca smashed one through Callender's finger tips when in his 20s & shortly afterwards John Hill could only parry another fiercely struck drive towards the boundary from the same batter. Macca gave no further chances & Clancy who used all parts of his bat to great effect saw off Brown & Gleadow before feasting on Pacific's change bowlers. Captain Jon Webley could only have wished for his usual greater bowling resources as the visitors toiled in the outfield until debutant Jack Smith got one through Clancy's defence.

Jim Davies who was a significant late arrival could only watch until the 24th over but the door was ajar. John Hill's stunning catch at long off to dismiss Macca & depriving him of his century blew it wide open & the tail with it for the modest further accumulation of 14 runs, Davies being chief beneficiary as his death bowling again cam into its' own.

The visitors modest resources was not restricted to the bowling alone & much hope of a 6 an over chase lay with seniors batsmen Davies & Webley. Openers Vincent Croft & Lahri Mohammed put on a solid start & at 33-0 after 10 a platform for the key batters but Lessa's change bowlers also outclassed the visitors' & after Clarke dismissed Croft Jon Webley was bowled by the lively & accurate Ferrez.

Not long later & at 34-5 Davies was joined by Hollman & the asking rate was still in their sites until Davies was bowled by Clancy & soon after Hollman was caught & bowled by Macca, the spin pair combining again in the middle to nail down the win their batting partnership had seemed to ensure.

James Gleadow, Jon Brown, Jim Davies, Matt Callender, Lahri Mohammed, Jon Webley*, Moses H-Pascal+, Vincent Croft, Pete Hollman, John Hill & James G's +Jack Smith.
