Thanks to an unbeaten half century from Captain Jon Webley, the ever imposing shadow of the worst ever run without a win was put to bed. As things stood the Club were on a run of 11 games without a win, 1 more would have tied with the worst going back to the 1993 season. Jon Webley saw to it that that ignominy was never reached. In fairness the bowlers had given him every chance & for once Jon had a bowling strength in depth & a real go-to bowler in John Baglivi. His comeback showed how much he has been missed as he picked up 3 wickets in his 8 over spell as did an in form James Smith & both bowlers were ably supported by a quality fielding performance where no catch was dropped & some mighty ground fielding lead by Oli Haill saw to it that even hittable deliveries were unrewarded hence a below par total of just 117 all out from the hosts - a mighty 140 runs less than their winning margin in the about fixture at Cambridge back in July.
Jon was pleased with his XI, he felt it was the strongest in weeks & the bowling was his trump card. Thoughtful planning & strategy saw key wickets taken by specialist fielders soon after being placed there & later coming in at 45-5, he & Conrad Chandler put the match winning partnership together. It was a good day for Jon indeed as he saw the fruits of his planning blossom to the full.
Confirmed XI:- Conrad Chandler, Oli Haill, Peter hollman, Lahri Mohamed, James Smith, Jon Webley*, John Baglivi, Nick Fuller, Ben Gibson & Matt Holliday & Darren Tempeny
+should we have withdrawals:- John-Paul Last unsure Ben Haley.
