Defeat Almost Snatched From The Jaws of Victory
Pacific v London Fields at Victoria Park Pitch 1  Tue 16 May 2006 at 6.30pm
Won 4 wickets
Victoria Park Community Cricket League fixture

With the rain trickling down, and Pacific skipper regretting that he hadn't selected Torvill and Dean to help field, London Fields gracefully accepted that the match should still take place.

Another solid bowling performance, with good variations in pace and two possible hatricks going begging from Long and Atkin (Emmins sinfully dropping a nick off Long, although a gracious pint did make up for it), plus a lack of batting tactics from London Fields, allowed Pacific to begin a chase of 97 to win.

So 97 to get, no problem. Although after a slow start things did look rather interesting as 9 an over was on the cards after only 5 overs. However, Blench's pacemaker allowed him to kick-start and up the ante to nudge his way to 26*, especially when the ever-reliable Long came to the crease and drove his way to 37*.

Thankfully this was a game that Pacific just got over the finishing line for, but the bowling (forgetting the small matter of 25 extras- 10 more than usual) was a marked improvement on previous matches. If the previous batting and the current bowling can be combined then surely Pacific can realise their potential.

Next stop Darji...
