Roberts Rockets With Bat and Ball
Pacific v Twickenham at Wray Crescent  Sat 05-May-2001 at 2pm
Drawn

Twickenham are a strong club side and this fixture was always likely to be a challenge to Pacific's resurgent form. Nothing to worry about then, as the team played very well to carve out a winning draw.

P 175-7dec D Murray 65, P Attwood 28. P Sullivan 5-0-30-4
T 146-9 Piper 72. J Baglivi 12-4-29-4, D Roberts 11-2-29-3

Batting first against some penetrative new ball bowling, Pacific reached a credible 175-7, with most of the wickets falling in the push for quick runs at the end of the innings. Paul Attwood (28) presented Twickenham with his usual immovable opener routine, abely supported by David Murray. When Attwood was finally out, Murray (65) accelerated the scoring with Captain Steve Lay before finally perishing as one of P Sullivan's 4 wickets, all bowled, in the dying overs. A swashbuckling 20 not out from Darryl Roberts set up the contest nicely.

Pacific bowled well at the beginning and end of the innings, led by opening bowlers Roberts and Baglivi. Despite a clatter of early wickets, Twickenham were always in the hunt due to a fine attacking innings from Piper. It was only when he was removed near the end of the innings as the middle victim of a team hatrick (a run out followed by two wickets from Roberts) that Twickenham's run chase was over. Pacific had three overs to remove the last wicket but came up just short.

After the match, David Murray said, "This team just keeps getting better. Another great team performance. This is a game two years ago we would have lost. Twickenham are an excellent league side and hopefully our new found fight bodes well for the rest of the season."
