P 166-6 dec. P Attwood 35, S Rees 26. A Baxter 17-6-41-3
LW 128-6. Edwoods 41*, M Alexander 11-3-18-5

P arrived in this corner of SE London in relaxed & confident mood & keen to avenge last season's humbling defeat to Lessa. A set back was losing the toss & P suffered another early setback as Ben Hardisty (0) was again out cheaply caught at 1st slip chasing a wide one. Reliable Paul Attwood soon undertook a familiar role as he held the innings together. Necessary too, as left arm seamer Andy Baxter bowled with great control & accuracy while Steve Beck medium off & leg cutters always had the batsman guessing. Useful contributions from the stroke players David Murray (22), Jim Davies (20), & Shayne Rees (26) but all falling to catches as they failed to truley read the slow pitch. A 7th wicket flourish from Leon Yates (22) & Captain Tim Mileham (14*) however, including 30 from the last 3 overs gave P a fair declaration total.

A moment of true sportmanship came from the Lessa Wanderer's keeper inviting back batsman Mileham after running him out and obstructing him at the same time. After the break, LW attacked this with a flourish, Baxter hitting off spinner Leon Yates for 6 from the latter's 1st delivery & after 3 overs L were 33-0. Assuredly opening quick Mike Alexander (5-18) & off spinner Leon Yates (1-46) wrestled back the initiative. Indeed, it was Leon who achieved the breakthrough, enticing a slight tickle from Baxter through to keeper Hardisty. Meanwhile John Bishop (19) at the other end played a chanceless innings only to be undone by a hamstring tear & forcing his retirement.

Mike Alexander bowled superbly & picked up the wickets at the other end from Bishop which included a perfect yorker to greet Steve Beck & remove him 1st ball. Beck was marked as the danger man having previously scored an unbeaten ton against Pacific. Following Mike's replacement however, the initiative was lost & P were unable to nail home the win their play deserved as staunch Lessa Captain Steve Eastway did what he does best & saw his side home to a belligerent draw, this despite Edwoods' (41*) more positive play exploiting outfield gaps left by the away side's attacking fields.

"Pacific's season continues to show improvement as the weekend's results compare favourably to last season's. the win against Chat's Palace compared to last season's draw & the winning draw against Lessa as compared to last year's defeat. The biggest plus points, - David Murray's return to fitness & form, Mike Alexander picking up from where he left off last season & the addition of exciting South African all-rounder Shayne Rees to the squad."
