Pacific’s bowlers overwhelmed Old Fallopians with a display of deadly swing and seam bowling – marching confidently into the quarter final of the Victoria Park Cup. Experienced swinger Rob Allum finished with 2 for 3 from his 4 overs - and Aussie paceman Martin Cowling taking 1 for 4 from his 4. Each bowler delivered two maidens each – prizes as rare as hen’s teeth in the 8-a-side competition. There was no let up from change bowlers – with burly Aussie all-rounder Kurt Rademaker and newcomer Will Barass also impressing - and claiming the final wickets as Old Fallopians were dismissed for a meagre 25.
Earlier Pacific’s batsmen had also struggled against the swinging ball – only Lucius Faisal’s calypso knock of 28 looking fluent. Welshman Jim Davies scratched out an ugly but useful 20 – with extras next top score with 19. Veteran Peter Hollman occupied the crease for 12 overs in making his 12 runs – with youngster Freddie Barass the most hostile of the bowlers.
However the total of 117 proved to be plenty as the Islington side ended their recent cup curse and romped to victory by 92 runs.
